Community. Thanksgiving. Family.
This year we continued our tradition of feeding our local First Responders on Thanksgiving. This year we were able to add two additional stations bringing our total to 6 stations, 2 in Bellbrook/Sugarcreek and 4 in Beavercreek, where we delivered fully prepped Thanksgiving dinners. Every year we are beyond impressed with how many friends engage in helping us make this happen. Over 54 sign ups were filled and several families came out on Thanksgiving morning to help prep and deliver dishes to the different departments. Our intention has always been to serve those who are constantly serving year round and we’re honored to do so with some wonderful people. Next year we can’t wait to see our tradition continue to expand and the love and thanks spread across our city!
Giving thanks is something that receives a lot of attention this time a year but it’s something that really need more intentionality year round. God’s really placed an emphasis on making lifestyle changes and making small changes that can have transformative effects over time. One of those lifestyle shifts I am trying to make is focusing on thanking God for what He’s given me daily. Not only do I believe this to be a faith building practice but one with some serious health benefits too.
- Gratitude improves physical health.
- Giving thanks protects from stress.
- People who are grateful are more likely to get better sleep.
- Thankful people will have more fulfilling relationships
- Gratitude produces a more empathetic and forgiving perspective
- Grateful people are less materialistic and more content.
I love the holidays because it focuses time and attention on family. Spending intentional time with them is one of my greatest joys. When we got to serve together this past week I was incredibly proud to see my daughter begging to be the one to help. Anna and I might not get everything right as parents but I’m pretty sure that spending intentional time with our kids specifically in the space of service is one of our better moves. I also love spending time with people so the holidays make for a lot of time consumed with that so I’m typically pretty thrilled with this time of year.
